anybody know if a dana 44 out of a 75-76 scout will fit and if it is stronger than a high dana 30 ? i have heard that the early 44 are weak.... any help thanks scott
its for a 95 jeep xj iknow i will have to cut and weld what i want to know is the bolt patter the same for wheels? thanks scott

ok
the guy that has it said that it drops down on the driver side could it be different years or something? i have not seen it yet.... thanks

I would question it, just get a pic, and make sure for some reason he has it upside down while looking at it. If it is going in an XJ I would suggest going with a 1980's + wagoneer front axle. You can find they pretty easy. The width would be right, but more importantly the caster will be better than teh scout. The scout has abotu zero degrees caster so you would have to cut and turn the knuckles.

dana

THANKS I seen the axle this weekend and it is a drop on the pass. side..........is there a way to put the dana 44 outters on a dana 30.. i would like to be able to turn the front to lock in? i know i can buy the set up but it is 700.-1000.

what are you running that you need bigger outers on a hpd30? what size tires, lockers, gears, trails? a hpd30 can be built to handle a fair amount of abuse, and depending on what you want to do may be a cheaper option than buying, building, and installing a d44 setup. putting a d44 up front isn't hard, just some work and a bunch of money. Like previously stated you're bolt pattern won't be the same front and rear unless you swap the d44 rear axle from the same wagoneer.

do you plan on regearing it or throwing a locker in with it? if so, then I'd definately get rid of the d30. If you're going to just put 35's on it and not regear or locker, you'll be fine, I just recommend upgrading to usa alloy chromo shafts, and keep some unibearing hubs on hand. Once you start talking about regearing, locking it, and playing in some sticky mud or just driving with a heavy right foot, then I'd look into saving up for a d44 swap. look for a donor wagoneer for the front and rear d44. you'll be better off swapping both it's axles in.
