Front Dana 44 broken shaft

78 Chevy Dana 44 FRONT. Grizzly locker. Broke axle shaft on Dicky Bell! Broke right at splined section in diff…tried unsuccessfully with magnet to pull it out. Friend “thinks“ I can pull axle on other side and push out the splined piece. Is it hollow through the diff and locker??? It’s been a while since I installed it and can’t remember.

I've been in the same exact situation with a dana 30. I used 1/4 piece of round rod through the carrier to beat the broken piece out.

Got out the broken piece through the other side. Good thing I pulled it….The axle shaft ujoint is toast!!! Probably would have broken on the next trip. No bearings. Lots of play.
