A friend has a plastic racing fuel cell, someone gave him for free. I was thinking about using it instead of building an aluminum one. My only problem is I would have to use an inline fuel pump instead of the factory tank mounted one. Any suggestions on what type of fuel pump to use if I go with the plastic cell, or would I be better off just building a cell and using the factory pump/sending unit? I am not too concerned if my gas gauge does not work, as I could be sure to keep it full whenever I need it. Someone told me a Thunderbird fuel pump would work good. This is going on a 2.7L Tacoma, I am not sure what pressure it needs to run properly.

Thanks.

there's a ford truck pump that's popular to use for an inline pump in custom setups. i can't think of the part number off hand. do a search on pirate, pretty sure it's listed there.

Late 80's f250 pump is what people use...but why couldn't you use the stock intank with the plastic cell? Just cut it out of the old tank, cut a hole in the plastic cell...bolt it in/seal it.

Any late 80s Ford truck, 87ish to 89ish had the two pump setup. There's a low pressure lift pump in the tank, and a high pressure pump with a filter and reserve tank that mounts on the fuel rail.

I'd still use a regular electric inline pump with the Ford high pressure pump, though. A little 22R might not have issues, but anything thirstier than that will have fuel delivery problems.

I have tried to search Pirate for the fuel pump, but their search function is down.

have to be a meber to search now,
been that way a while

google: 'fuel pump site: Pirate4x4.com'

remove the 's

Just my $.02 on aluminum cells.. mount them with straps.. not with tabs.

my $.02 after owning two aluminum ones and a plastic one, is buy a plastic one or carry JB quick with you for the aluminum one.
