Fuel system for a TJ

Has anyone on here have any experience with swapping from the stock fuel pump to an external fuel pump? Apparently the early TJs have a returnless fuel system. But could I just run an external fuel pump to a regulator then to the fuel rail without any issues?

What’s wrong with the in-tank pump?
 
I would just get a fuel rail with a return
 
What about a corvette fuel filter/regulator? Probably have to do an external pump still but it would keep you from having to add a return line to the whole system
 
Is the pressure adjustable? Tjs call for 49psi +/-5 and that is around 58psi on the one I just found. Is there a model and year to look for?
