well i was geting gas at the store when i realized that i had a leak in the fuel tank of my truck.so i grab a lighter and look and sure enuff their is the gas leak .the lighter showed it plain as day.so i broke out my on board welder and tried to weld it but the leaking gas kepp me from getting an arc.so this brings me to my question.what is the best way to repair a small hole in the fuel tank?the leak is a pretty good one so i did the best i could with 18 gallons of gas in the tank.i am in the process of draining the tank now so please let me know some sugestions.jb or some epoxy puddy or is their actually stuff just for this.

thanks chris

Lighter ? Welder ??? I'm surprised you're alive........

You got some big juevos to weld that thing with gas in it, much less check for a leak with a lighter?
drain it, yank it, LET IT AIR OUT, fill it with carbon monoxide from the tailpipe of another vehicle and THEN WELD AWAY!!!!!
If you wanna fix it in the vehicle then go down to your local marina and pick up some "marine-tex" , this is what they use to seal boat gas tanks when they leak. i have used this stuff for all sorts of uses including gas tank repair to sealing plastic radiators and it works rather well. i have had it on my drag cars' fuel cell now for about 5 years and its yet to leak a drop.
it works like bondo with a putty and an activating agent you have to mix it with.
oh yeah, get you some waterproof green grease while your there, this is what dynatrac uses on their new axles.

I think he's jokingly asking for help. As in (cliff notes) "Gas tank broke. Will epoxy putty work?"

Try and use a propane torch and braze it. Get back to us on how it worked.

A screw with a rubber washer will stop it long enough to get it dried off. I have used JB weld and the gas tank repair from Advance, both with success. I just applied right over the screw. The rubber washer on the screw will fade away with time though so it's only good for a short term fix

Use a Bar of soap an rub it into the hole. this will stop the leak so you can patch it
Then I would use the Gas tank repair putty it works very good

That went right over there heads. I've patched a few gas tanks but they usually just end up leaking somewhere else.

i was for sure that this would be deleted befor some one had a chance to answer.i need my hook back from some of yall iv still got my line and sinker goons.thats awsome.i havent laughted this hard since saturday night at limpy, mazer and stones paw and the guy useing a highlift jackto change a tire on slickrock with out anything holding thetruck but anyway>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
went to napa an found a feul tank repair kit with epoxy and fiberglass.says it will work with desiel and gas.well we'll see.

It'll just start leaking from somewhere else... replace the tank now, or in the VERY near future, before you dump it all out... Seen it..
