Ok, were headed to the Triad area on Sat. to shop for a bedroom set, and wanted to know where the furnature outlet stores are. I've seen a few along the way to the big daddy swap meet off I85 Buisness.. Are there more/others ?

Are these places rips off ? Or the real deal discount places?

Any info helpful... thanks -mike

I'm no expert, but my wife just sent me down to Furnitureland South Salvage to pick up a kitchen table she bought. She claimed it was a good deal.
Last exit off biz85 in High Point, Main St./311S exit, it was about 100 ft off biz 85 on the right.

I've been dragged to the Furnitureland South main showroom...what a nightmare, I didnt see how any of that was worth the asking price.

I was going to mention Furniture Land South (edit: the Slavage one tha tTony mentioned) too. There's another place (not in the Triad) in Hickory that a coworker just bought a bunch of Furniture from. Don't recall the name though maybe one of our Hickory boys on here knows.

Other than that, all you have to do is drive down Main Street (US311) High-Point out the south side of town and look at all the signs. If it's not fast food, it's furniture.

ill 2nd that... plus Hickory has the worlds largest indoor furniture showroom.... furniture and eating are Hickory's prides, haha ..... if that doesnt scream laziness i dunno what does haha

I-40 to Exit 123-B then head on up 321 North. Between Hickory and Lenoir is what is known as "20 miles of furniture" with lots of enormous, fancy showrooms to find what you want. Then proceed to the mom and pop type discount stores to get it cheaper than the big furniture malls.

Id rather proceed to the mom/pop store from the get go. Im hoping to not have to wander aimlessly around town until i find them...

Next question: Are these places usually ready to deal? Are they like car salesman where Ill have to wear them down for a few hours... Should we go later in the month ?

Does it make sense to I take the pickup truck and be prepared to haul some stuff home ? Or should we just shop first, then go back for the goods???

-mike (finally upgrading from college furniture to wife approved stuff)

Our approach (for living room stuff) was to walk through all the big showrooms until we found what we liked. Then we went to Mackie Furniture www.mackiefurniture.com and got a much better deal on the exact same stuff. $1900 no delivery vs. $1200 delivered. There is a lot of mark up on furniture so feel free to haggle.

Since you're coming from out of town you may want to bring a truck and dedicate a day to looking. You can probably get a deal on something from the showroom floor. 321N about 4 miles from 40 there is an outlet mall for Broyhill/Kincaid/Bernhardt and they will have lots of good deals. Just north of it are several discount places (50 or more) within just a few miles on both sides of the road. Can't miss em.

I believe it is called THE ATRIUM,it is a "mall" on South Main St in High Point as well. It is pretty big, has all the various 'big name' brands in it and you can get some good deals. Each store is independent, I personally didn't haggle any once we found the couch we wanted for the right price. This is literally like the 600-1500ish block range from downtown High Point.

Furniture Land South (Off BUSINESS 85) is freakin huge, not sure how good the prices are, there is a big selection though but some of the stuff is really high. (Wife LOVED the $25k dining room table...no I dont THINK SO)

Off the MAIN ST exit is the main row, between Biz85 and downtown. Off to the left side, just beyond the Sonic is a big store in what used to be a Roses years ago. Good prices, selection is what they have on hand.

Directly BEHIND that Sonic (again, South main st in High Pt), is a little hole in the wall that we have bought several pieces from like our Curio cabinet, kitchen table/chairs and wine rack. Mom/Pop kinda place, real small strip, you will actually have to go one street beyond because of 1 way streets. (What I do is use the parking lot in the paragraph above this one to get there)

I want to say twoish more exits down from Main St (on biz 85, still heading to Charlotte) is another FurnitureLand South outlet...better prices than the first one you will pass closer to Greensboro. Lots of signs for this...

...hmm, Colfax furniture (actually Kernersville now, diff direction a bit) is another place I scored several deals, and mom/pop kinda place...they have an outlet room in the back that is the really deep discounted stuff, but that might not be wifeapproved... but the reg floor stuff is nice. Wife and I were in there looking at bedroom furniture the other night. If you want more info on it I can look it up.

What "room" are you looking at, is this couches, or chairs or....kitchen, dining room...bedroom? It might help us trigger a thought/name, some places are better for certain rooms than others.

But...to repeat myself, the Atrium is a great starting place, you will see some of everything including places where you pick the style you want and then pick the fabric, etc... We spent $1800ish there early 2003 when we bought our new house, on our U shaped couch (we picked fabric, they built/delivered)..brand name escapes me at the moment, store was downstairs at main entrance, NW corner of bldg...

go to hickory or go to main st in high point off business 85
main st and 311 are pretty much the same road. ive been an upholsterer for 18 years . the mark up is unbelievable. some places might deal while most others will not. its pretty much hit and miss. i hand tuft so everything i build usually cost over $4,000.00 per piece. take your truck because a deal is a deal right then and usually not later. most furniture stores carry bed room suits.
good luck.

jsut an fyi... there are no smokin deals in any showroom in high point because they know people are coming thinking they are gettingt he best prices.

high point will give you a plethora of choices and selection... but anything you see in any high point showroom can undoubtably be found cheaper elsewhere or a month or so before market when they try to sell off last year's items.....

I work for Thomasville Furniture and we have outlets in Thomasville and Hudson on 321.
And yes the markup is niiiiiiice.:flipoff2:

I'll second Sam's vote for Colfax. They are responsible for filling several of our rooms at home. Great prices, good quality, and if you need delivery...they are the only ones that didn't mar up the walls when we moved in the house.

There is another location off of I85 at S Holden Rd in Greensboro. It is about the same is the one in Kernersville as far as selection and picing.

I would have to give a thumbs down to Southeastern Furniture Warehouse. Wife and I walked in, looked from the doorway, and turned around and walked out.
