DO NOT PUT THE EXTERNAL SELECTO'S ON!!!!!

Seriously, today went a little something like this with Kevins K5:

OK yay were here . . . . . .

5 min later

. . . . driving throu a moderate obstacle BAM both hubs blew off, literally, just shattered and went flying off, maybe 7 or 8 min of wheeling, those things suck, work good on the road, suck offroad.

Which also sucks because they are the only ones you can buy, unless you wanna run flanges which suck on the road :shaking: stupid dodge stuff :poop:

sounds like they didn't get assembled correctly. locking hubs don't just shatter/come off at the same time. it's also not common for them to go flying anywhere when they break if the cap is secured correctly.

have to agree with the others. The only time I know of a lock out hub went flying was when the axle shaft(inner or outer) broke, there by the axle actually lengthening as the axle rotates since it's not a shear cut. Usually in my experience it mearly breaks the hub, and nothing goes "flying".

While I agree the selectros are not the best things in the world, Im with the others: something else is/was the issue here. As far as drive flanges, ive never had a problem running them on the street, and its not like its that big of a deal to swap them out at the trail head, it can easily be done while airing down.

Looks to me like they were just made outta really crappy material, non of the internals broke the actual bolt on part just shattered. Guess its possible they were put on wrong we were having issues with them earlier, but got them working and they engaged/disengaged fine.

Pretty sure PJ was having the same problem with his under the green Cruiser.

On a side note does he even need to have hubs to drive around on the road? I mean the axle shaft doesnt turn and if it does it rides on the bearings in the spindle right?

I mean he drove it home on the highway after this happened like a 15 min drive with no issues.

Im thinkin we could just put a bunch of duct tape on the ends to keep junk outta the bearings and still drive around like it is . . . .
