I did vinyl shakes on my gable ends, they went up in spring of '18. In the past 7 years, what was dark brown has faded to yellow (South and West gables). The East gable is just faded some, but still brown.

I hate the yellow.

Any thoughts on what to go back up with? Material? Color? (Roof shingles are a brownish/grayish, shutters are dark dark green.)

Bones of your enemies. The sun bleached weathering only adds to the WOW factor. lol.

You can get good vinyl products but it’s probably the most expansive option.

I used stained and treated real cedar roof shakes in mine. Don’t like the cookie cutter cedar siding and wanted more texture. Been up for a decade and still look great. Weathered some, but not really noticeable to anyone but me.

Why don't you just paint them?
If you do paint them make sure the paint is rated for the vinyl.
I've seen houses that they used regular exterior paint on vinyl siding and it buckled every piece. They ended up having to replace it all!
