So has anyone got the gumption to actually check the gas mileage on their rig? (If driven on the street). Just checked mine on the Red 4runner (22R, W56, Dual cases, 35in. tires, 4.10 in the diffs.) A whopping 9.2 MPG!!!! I've ran one whole fuel cell through it and didn't make 100 miles. (And the inside of the tail pipe is already black as coal. ) Thinking it's running a little on the rich side, but will pull the plugs tomorrow and see for sure.

My 2000 jeep wrangler 4.0L with 6" lift on 35" tires.and 4.56 gears gets on average of 11 miles per gallon.
You have two transfercases, which adds more resistance and therefore less economy.

Don't know yota lingo; do you have a manual or automatic tranny?
Manuals generally get a mile or a mile in a half better economy. Specifically the automatic transmissions that I have seen just until recently the fancy 7 speed highly efficient auto transmissions in the last 10 years. (I.e. the new transmissions that go in accords and other sedans are so damn advanced know they get the same mileage as manuals. )

Are you undergeared and lugging your engine?

on my '85 4runner 22re, w56, 4.37's, single case and 31's, i can manage to get 16 city, but 9, thats crazy.

if you're using the odometer for the distance measurment, and have not adjusted the speedo gear, be sure to figure the correction factor based on tire and gear differences, factory vs. what you have now.

im running 9 inches lift on 35's and im getting 12. thats with all my engine mods. haha. i got so desperate for more economy i actually invested in a tbody spacer for 30 bucks and went back to my factory air box.lol. still 12.ha

Good point, and it is mostly all city driving. Tons of stop and go and only 2-3 miles per trip. Will hit the road a bit in the next tank to see. Mostly I wanted to be sure the wheels weren't going to fall off this go 'round. The speedo is off (more the faster I go according to my phone) so I probably did manage to get over 100 miles on that tank. I guess I'll have to do a bit of research to see actual distance traveled.

-77 250, moderate 400, C6, 205, 37 Boggers, 4.88's.....5mpg city, 8mpg hwy
-79 Bronco, mild 400, c6, 205, 35 MT's, 3.55's....9 mpg city, 14mpg hwy
-96 350 CC, relatively stock 460, E4OD, BW1356, 37 SSR, 4.56's...12mpg city, 14mpg hwy

^^At least you've got some horsepower to go with your crappy mileage. I found an app for my phone that has an odometer on it with a speedo so I'll try that. I was hoping to get at least 13 out of it.:)

^^^Well with the exception of the 460 (stock numbers, but I've got build for that that should be complete by August if I find the time)...I usually build my 400's to be in the 300-350hp and 400-440tq range. While quicker than stock, that's not an awful lot of power to be tugging along 6000lbs.

I get about 18 depending on how many hill there are. Thats with 4.10 gears, 22RE and 35's(w56 and single case). That and i shift at about 3-3500 and dont use 5th.

Edit, turns out I have 4.10, just had to take the rear diff out

im running about the same setup. 87 4runner, 92 22re w/ header, dual cases, 35x12.5x15 TSLs, w56, 4.10s. i just drove about 360 miles round trip from boone to creedmoor/raleigh and averaged 17 mpg at an average speed of 70mph based on gps. to anyone who doesnt know thats a lot of uphill and downhill. i assume i get about 12 around town but the 17mpg hwy was verified.

I pulled the plugs Friday and they were in pretty poor shape but didn't look like it was running rich. 100 miles or so it probably not enough to get a good gauge of how it's running, but they were worn enough to replace so I did. Got about 12 or so using my cell phone for mileage out on the back roads around here this weekend. Hopefully I can get it a bit higher.

I'm getting about 15MPG. 2010 4 Unlimited Rubicon, 37's and 5.13 gears.

00 TJ, 4.6 Stroker, NV4500, 4.56 gears, 38.5" Creepy Crawlers, 5300lbs, 15mpg regardless of type of driving.

99 XJ, 5 or so inch lift, 32x10.50s, 4.0 no mods other than K&N and glasspack, factory gears 3.55's and i got 18.8 mpg hwy until i stuck a tire on my roof and that knocked me down to about 16 mpg.

My 87 Cherokee got 21+ interstate 19city stock. Just stuck the 31s on it so Idk yet what it'll do know have to wait for the next tank to get new numbers since I'm wheeling this weekend I'm not going to go bye this tank.

UPDATE

before i took my jeep out of commission for more upgrades i clocked 17 mpg in the wrangler. limited 2k rpm and my rearend was still wrapping. wooo!:bounce2:

im getting about 14-16 depending on how much farm riding i do, truck is a 86 pickup sas with about 5" of lift 37's single 4.7 case and a cammed, header, webber 22r with 4.10 gears, and thats about what it got with ifs and 31's
