I'm working on a 1967 M715 fuel tank, trying to salvage it cause new ones are not available.
I want to cut an access hole into the top to work on the fuel pickup tube (its not removable or accessible down thru the sender hole....too small)
I want to close this access hole up with a removable piece of metal so I can get back in there when I need to
My plan was to cut a sheet of regular steel slightly larger than the access hole, the same thickness of the tank, and screw it down with self tappers. This is not a race car, its not pretty, and it just needs to hold the fumes in.
I'm thinking I'd need a seal of some sort. What can I use that will hold the fumes in and not break down due to the gas fumes?
Cork? Neoprene like this?
Thanks!
