Hey guys Im setting up gears in my 4runner, and would appreciate if you guys could take a look at the gear pattern and tell me how I should adjust it. Ive been using Zuk's site as a reference and worked my way down to 55 thou shim on the pinion and 8 thou on the backlash. These are the results.

Gears are G2 gears for reference and the diff has an ARB locker in it if that makes any difference. It is also going into a v6 toyota 3rd. I already ground down the pinion gear per ARB's instructions since it was hitting the carrier.

Thanks guys ill take out some shim and repost my results later today. Also ill get better pics. I took the pics this morning with the garage door up and it glared a bit.

I ran a ton more patterns today. I tried to keep the backlash around .006-.008

Here are the results. Lemme know what you guys think.

0.045 pinion shim .006 backlash

I like the 0.013" pattern myself. I'd run that one with a good break in. It's a little deep, but I wouldn't sweat it much.
I can't believe you only needed that little of pinion depth shim thickness. Are you sure there isn't one under the race that you missed?

Sam that may explain why there wasn't a pinion shim when 4 wheel parts of Colorado regeared it. Or they said screw it and didn't want to clearance the pinion.

Possibly. But it originally was setup with a Yukon gear set. Honestly I'm thinking they said screw it and ran without a shim. Impossible to know now that the gears are gone. Maybe we can check to see if there's shims behind the race tomorrow but I'll probably run the .013 shim and call it a day.

I'll check behind the race tomorrow to see but I kinda doubt there's a shim there. From Zuks site typically the toyotas run about 100 thou for shim so I thought it was kinda strange myself. This is the first time I'm setting up gears though.

Well I thought I'd update ya on the gear install. Took apart the third this morning with Chris and found about 90 thou worth of shims behind the race.
