I'm terrible at reading gear patterns. I think it looks like the pinion is slightly too deep . Gm 10 bolt. Backlash at 10 thou.

Thanks in advance for the help.

What are you using for marking compound? Looks like lithium grease...need something that will dry a bit more than that so you can read it. Or perhaps let it dry for a few minutes before turning the gears.

.010" backlash to me is a bit too loose...I'd aim for .006" IIRC. I'd have to look that one up.

Pinion depth looks too deep on the drive side, too shallow on the coast side. Might have to slather the grease back up and try that one again! ...after you tighten up the backlash a hair.

Yeah... It's actual marking compound. I'll try letting it dry. And I'll look up bl spec on Mitchell. I seem to remember 6 to 12

Don't know what I was thinking on the .006" backlash...just looked it up myself and it should be .006-.010". So if you have .010" you should be good to go with that. I don't know that I'd make a fuss over .002" to split the difference.

I tried staring at your gear pattern for a while, and I still can't really tell. Still looks to me like what I said the first time. I'd try letting that mess set up for a minute.

looks like you got a little happy with the marking compound. Clean it all off of the ring gear and the pinion. start over with just a light coat on on drive and coast side of the teeth.
