Wondering what everyone though of this gear pattern, this is the best I've come up with so far, and I'd like some opinions. Good? Move the pinion closer or farther away? This is at .010 backlash.
Yup, crappy old Dana 35. Figured i can rebuild it a couple of times for what a swap like I want is going to cost. I'm fairly confident in this pattern. Just curious what some other might think of it, I could be wrong after all.
Looks good to me, .010 your tightest backlash when checking 3-4 separate spots?
What's the paint look like at the point its transferred back on to the ring gear?
To deep. As Jody said pull some out of the pinion and tighten the backlash. The coast may start to go shallow from where you are. You may end up running a deep/shallow . Are you keeping pressure on the pinion running your patterns?
Yessir, keeping pressure on the pinion. Here it is with -.005 om the pinion (was .045 of shims, now .040) and almost .007 of backlash, I'm getting about .0065.
It is still too deep. Especially on the coast side. It would probably be quiet, but it ain't right yet. I would take out another 0.005" if it were mine.
I would put .003 back in and run it again to see what you have, you are close, it is either gonna be this or .003 back in. you have a bit of the deep/shallow going on I spoke of earlier
I may not have enough shims to bring another .003 out. I may have some leftovers from another install kit. As long as I get some decent longevity out of it, I'm perfectly fine, that's all I'm concerned about.
