How's this pattern look? I'm conflicted. HP44 .007" backlash.

Deep. You see the distinct flat line at the base of the contact patch?
Remove 0.005" from the pinion shim stack and re-run the pattern. Apply pressure to the ring with a prybar while turning the pinion. It'll yield an easier to read pattern

You're getting closer. Clean it all off really well, and spin the pinion, while loading the ring.
It's kinda hard to read

This is the best I can get it to do. Took a couple more thou out pinion depth. Keeping pressure on ring gear while rotating pinion. This was a used gear set from @jeepinmatt .Can't remember if they were ever actually ran or just installed. Pinion preload 15. 8 backlash. This is not my first set of gears but the pattern looks odd.

Given the fact it is a used gear and a contact patch is very broad on both Coast and drive, I would let it ride. Nice work buddy
