The dyno sheet begs to differ

If that was for me…I was being beyond sarcastic. I have a ton of innernet hate for the 300. It’s a fine straight 6, I just can’t stand the fanboi crowd. It runs forever because it doesn’t have enough power to hurt itself. And the fact that really gets innernet bruncle daddies wound up is you can put the 300 against any other ford V8 over the same time period, and the v8 will have more hp and more tq at the same plot point, regardless of how much stump pulling torque granpappy said it had…not to mention the 300 craters somewhere around 3000rpm and most v8’s will keep pulling. At LEB we did an N/A 1.7hp:ci 300, and it was a fun build…but for the same money coulda had an 800hp+ 460.

So what you're saying is that the jeep 4.0 is actually a better motor? My stock 4.0 was 149hp and somewhere north of 200ftlbs.

Honestly, I’d agree to that. I much preferred driving my XJ in college over any of the OBS ford’s I had with the 300…for ‘spirited’ driving anyway.

Don't let a Ford guy hear that!

Yeah but that ole 300 will still be runnign long after the 4.0 has been buried

Certainly didn’t hurt that the XJ was like 1000lbs lighter and came 3” less tire.
Wait what?
you mean that power to weight ratio - and rotational mass - actually matter? GTFO

but.but, but there's this maverick on youtube with a turbo on a 300 and there's this other video of this other guy who's doing this and doin that.

Best Ford engine ever made.will run for forever w zero oil pressure and get 20+mpg at the same time while pulling 15K @ 80 mph up hill w a head wind. The 300 fan boys are like bein in 10th grade shop class and listening to everybody trying to one up each other.

When I first got into circle track racing, the class we ran used inline 6-cyl. engines.
The Ford guys literally spent twice as much to get the HP as the GM guys would.

Yeah…I’d agree to some extent on ford vs Chevy cost, but there is an eventual crossover point where machine work costs what machine work costs, heads with good flow cost what heads with good flow cost, a rotating assembly costs what a rotating assembly costs, etc etc. The guy building a 383 stroka with 4 boat manes and camel hump heads, who is perfectly happy buying off the shelf parts and is capped at 500hp, will never need/want to know the difference…and that’s 99% of everyone.

Edit…and there are so many factors to consider it’s not even funny. I know one guy that’ll repeatedly say there was no need for us to spend what we did on a 400 ford engine to hit over 650hp…we did it N/A, it’s streetable and will last 200,000 miles…he puts a cheap turbo setup on his and runs it until it pops and has run 4 different blocks over the last year.

I grew up w the ideal that you really had to have a four bolt main block,But in all honesty how many 2 bolt blocks have dropped a crank or split that werent over boosted or sprayed heavy?? Legit question.

In my experience, most stock blocks can take 800hp in any form, but stock rotational mass starts coming apart (or doesn’t last long) somewhere around 600hp. And that’s talking pre-2000’s stuff…and that’s strictly v8’s.

Some merit to that, the caveat being everyone prefers different flavors. Some people want something reliable that will last that is worry free while they play with it. Other people its a hobby, and they want to play cheaply. Timberlakes make since to 50 cent, and Bates make sense to Gi Joes

A diamond has many faces, and the mistake most people make is saying the side they see is the whole diamond

Agreed all the way around. And in a personal vehicle, I have no problems running complete dog shit…as a business though, you wouldn’t last very long. We did have some requests to repurpose greasy turds to save a few bucks, that just wasn’t our style (most the time)…oddly enough tough to get $100k clients if you’re putting your name on $5k turds. But I know there are shops out there that prefer the the volume of $5k builds.

That only applies to them fuel making Cummings engines.
When I was truck shopping, I saw a shit ton more Rams with "new engine" than Fords or GMs. We're talking sub-250k miles and most sub-200k miles, and at least 5:1 if not closer to 10:1 Ram to Ford/GM ratio. I would say there could be some correlation to more people using Rams as hotshot trucks, and they put 4.88 gears in the 5500s with max tow package, which puts you at nearly 3000rpm on the highway. That Cummins is not happy at that rpm. It wants to lug along around 2200-2500.

The absolute worst fanboys are RB26 retards. IDK if you ever dealt with them but daaaaaaaaaamn it's hard to be that retarded.
2JZ folks aren't far behind, but at least the engine is good.

hey I'm not competing against anybody!! I am blessed with my customers, they are blessed by me, my work, my prices and quality and that's enough for me. I wouldn't and won't ever dare to compare myself to some of the work I see out there. There are some amazing fabricators out there (Mathew Cutler) and many many others....and I am not one of them!!! I proudly admit that so no competition here buddy. Yall have a blessed day!!
