I need to get my towrig/DD registered down here. I have all sorts of stupid questions.

For reference, it is a midly modified 99 f-250 SD, diesel.

1. Weighted tags. Do I need them? I dont have a trailer (yet), but i borrow a heavy car hauler (2k pounds, 7k+ loaded) and I borrow and am looking to buy a 2 car goose (4k trailer, 16+/-k loaded) with a heavy truck (7k empty!). Worst case is 24k total.. probably only 20-22 usually, but only 4-6x a year? I have seen SD's with weighted tags, and without them.

2. Tinting. My front two windows are tinted. Not real dark, but they have a film on them. Do I need to take it off?

3. Registration/Title. It is (less them half) owned by the bank, I guess i need to call them and get the title switched? any ideas here?

4. Inspection. Diesel truck, but aftermarket exhaust, probably to be registered on Orange county. Am I correct in assuming it is pretty much a lights only test?

Thats about it for now, I guess i need insurance (less then 1/2 of delaware!) before I can get a liscence before I can get the truck registered. Oh, the joys of switching states.

How about this, you are in North Carolina don’t worry about it gist take your truck up to D.M.V. and get the damn thing registered. This is coming from a N.C. law enforcement officer I see nothing wrong with any of the modes you have they will not stop you from getting you truck registered .

due this is nc gist go to the dmv you will be fine

Dude, will you proof read before you hit the submit button. I have no idea what you just tried to say.

Yes you will need them. The weight will be the max weight loaded of the truck and anything you plane to tow or haul. I think I have 15k at about $180 per year or something close to it.

2. Tinting.
That is part of the safety check and will cost you 10$ more if I remember correct. Around 20-25 a year total.

3. Registration/Title. Go to DMV with all the paperwork you have and they will do it.

4. Inspection. Safety only see #2

I guess i need insurance before I can get a liscence and registered.
Yes this state you need Insurance to get tags and DL.

Thank you :D

Having gone through the process a little less than 2 years ago I remember some of it. They can charge you a premium during the inspection for the window tint if it didn't come from the factory that way (assuming they notice) but you don't have to remove it. As for the title we had to provide ours when we got our plates. Having moved from WI our bank didn't hold the title like is done here.

Also, enjoy shelling out for being a new resident. We ended up paying close to $600 to register our vehicles in NC.

Well, He did not say if he was the owner or the title was in his name.

He did not say if the company that he has insurance with is able and licensed to sell in NC.

He also did not say if he had any papers that he would need to go DMV and transfer the title or registration.

Thats three things :)

Yep the road use tax is a killer!!!!!!!!
Then you pay property tax later on top of that ..

Yeah, this is looking more and more like its going to suck. And I thought the Jeep was expensive.

Ah well... At least the insurance is cheap.

the only bad part of getting truck registered in NC is the 1st time registration... they will get ya for that.. you will have a weighted tag, nc tax, plates, etc.. will be a few $100 so be prepared... if you want to find out exactly what is cost call 919-715-7000 DMV main office.. listen for registration option..

also with the tint just go in on a nice warm day with a/c off and windows down :) I have never had a place actually roll up my windows to check :)... but just incase 35% is the darkest allowed in NC on front windows...

inspection will be a breeze since it is only safety as stated above...you can usually go into any jiffy lube and be out of inspection in 15 mins if no one is ahead of you..

Well, he might be paying his property taxes when he gets his tags. NC is changing it up now. Anybody else notice that? Pay your property tax on your vehicle to the License Plate Agency instead of the county tax office...at least in Craven county anyway. I assume it will be state wide. Makes no sense to me as the License Plate Agencies are contracted, not owned by the state.

Holy memory lane batman...lots of faces in here we dont see anymore.
