I'll be the first to admit, I'm not much in the way of a mechanic, but I'm pretty decent at being a parts worker/manager. What are the general "requirements" of getting a job at a 4x4 shop? A lot of the posts I see on here reference 4 Wheel Parts (just as an example) as a dealer for quite a few items and as an installer of those items (more than I knew).

A big problem is, there aren't many 4x4 shops around...and the ones that are, are mainly one man operations. At least here on middle of the east coast.

yeah...race car shops are the same way. I'm shooting more for a TarHeel 4WD or 4 Wheel Parts, etc

Judging from the bozo's at 4WP in Raleigh, your IQ must not be higher than your resting heart rate. Whomever wins this contest by the biggest margin gets to become manager.. :flipoff2:

DISCLAIMER: This is a joke. This is only a joke. Don't anyone take it seriously. Thank you, drive around.

Why not work at AutoZone, i think they make more than me :(

This reminds me of when 4WP first opened up in Charlotte. I was uderemployed at the time and I had seen an ad indicating they were looking for "Sales Help", so I drove there to check the place out. I drove my Jeep there, which at the time, was SOA with Scout Dana44's, 36" SX's, TPI Chevy motor, SM465 trans, etc. all built by me. I'm no mechanic, but I can figure out which side of the wrench goes toward the vehicle.

Anywho... I strike up a conversation with the manager indicating that I may be interested in speaking with someone in regards to their available positions, and he tells me that they really don't have any "Sales" positions available per se, but he could put me to work sweeping the floors, etc. Being the underemployed, but college educated fellow I am, I held out for something else.

Before we finish our conversation, he asks me if I am into 4 Wheel Drive vehicles at all (probably to see if I was the "right" person to be sweeping his floors) and I tell him that I do have a 90 Jeep Wrangler parked outside that I built myself. He asks what kind of lift I have on it and I tell him it's a spring-over with modified YJ packs. He says, "Oh, you mean that?" (pointing to the wall that has a display of the Pro Comp coilover kit). I said no, and proceeded to explain to the manager what a spring-over means. "So where did you get that kit?", he asks.

It's not a kit. I didn't buy it. I built it. A concept he couldn't seem to fathom.

Needless to say, the parts I had my eye on that they had in stock I didn't buy there.....

4wheelparts in Raleigh has always done right by me and my wife.
And Rich, I could swear the manager of 4WP helped you get conact info to get your car's tranny fixed back in Dec. He must not be that bad?

Mangler / Whitey - it was a joke. Those guys know me and know I meant it in fun.

Whitey - The occasion you mentioned was just one of the times that the guys at the Raleigh store have helped me out.

I've edited the original post...

Check please........

Rich is a good shit. he wouldn't know what to do with himself if he didn't have my balls to break.

4WP Charlotte = What a JOKE!!!! 4WP Raleigh on the other hand obviously has some people there that know what they're doing...

I just remember buying 36" Bias Iroks from 4WP Charlotte... (price match)... First off it was a fight to get them to mount them on 15x8 wheels.... "It's not possible".. Second I said they were going on a XJ... they said it's not going to fit...

4WP Charlotte specializes on adding bolt on lifts to FJ Cruisers and catering to the "elite" Private/Catholic school kiddies H2's... Sorry if that offends anyone on here that works for 4WP Charlotte.... Just based my observations and others that I know...

Yeah 4WP in Charlotte is a bit of a piece of work.
When I shredded my Bogger at Tellico, I took it back (thank GOD for the off road hazard insurance , thats 3 replacements now) it had about a 5" gash in the sidewall, through the bead.

Well there were only 2 guys in the front (Kyle not being one of them) and they said the guys in the shop were at lunch o I needed to bring it back later to let them check it out, to make sure they could not repair it.

I argued with the guy for 30 minutes, and finally went and ate lunch then came back and ordered my new tire....

Ive not been in the Raleigh store, but it comes much more highly recomended....even iff greg is running it

I would like to think that the crew here at the raleigh store trys our hardest to please the customers. I beleive the difference that sets us apart from the charlotte store is that the raleigh crew is all enthusiast of the sport.

Anyways on to the original subject, As some of you know I am the service manager at the raleigh 4wp. The best I advise I can give is ask all the questions you can, also the more hands on experience you have the better you will be at answering questions and solving problems. When I look for a good employee I do not nessecarily want someone who knows everything. I want someone who has a good mechanical base and has the willingness to learn and listen.
