I think it was plausible. Two things make it difficult to drown though.
1. Roll down a window and crawl out.
2. Wait till the car fills with water and the door will open easy, then swim to safety.
this makes me wonder why in the world they were in the back of the jeep. Seems if they had stayed where they were then tried to open the front doors they would have been fine
there is no latch on the inside...right?
Mythbusters did a thing on it and they said the window would still electrically operate. They said the pressure would keep them from going down but the test they did on it was to take a car door lay it flat and pile sand bags on the glass. Of course it ain't going to go down, the sand bags are in the way it won't push the sand bags off the glass, but I think water will slide off the glass and the window will go down.
.
Also, 97's all have electric windows(I think...could be wrong)never seen manuals on a 97.
A standard 12 volt system would be fine underwater for door locks, windows, and lights. The radio, ignition system and the new cars with their canned systems would likely fail though.
Article said they were trying to open the back glass....97 xjs dont have a back glass that opens.
Mine has mauals!! 97 SPORT with rubber floor no carpet.
how many times have you heard a non Jeep/4Wheeler call a Grand Cherokee a Cherokee? I wonder if it was a ZJ that did have the rear opening window.... still doesn't have a latch on the inside that I'm aware of.
