1986 K-5, I'm putting a 14Bolt FF in the rear. Whats the simple
way to convert the Front 10 to 8lug. Can I just change hubs
or are there a difference on the 3/4 stuff.

You'll need 10 bolt 3/4 ton backing plates, hubs, and rotors. You should be able to reuse your calipers, lockouts, and spindles.

x2. If you want to polish a turd, look into the alloy shafts that Offroad Design makes.

"easy" way?
Find a 3/4 ton truck
and unbolt 4 u bolts
Depending on how you use it the 10 will be fine...hardcore off road, probably not street/trail use should be

I will have to give the 10 bolt credit where it's due.. with some chromo shafts it can run with all the D44s with chromo shafts, which get used all the time. Just put it under something that won't blow it up because of power or weight (K5 might be a bad starting point, but if you're running under a 36 it shouldn't be too bad).

I run an open 10b/3.73 on 37's on my K5 and haven't had a problem yet either at URE or Tellico. It's a good enough axle to have run for 20 years or so stock. Carnage is directly related to driving style.

Eric (Pipeline) just told you the parts you need. Probably ought to get new ball joints while you're at it.

Open diff. That's why it lives. Besides, Something tells me you didn't do school bus with an open front.. :flipoff2:

10b, locked, 38.5 boggers, 5 tellico trips, 2 URE trips, and more at some local private places then I care to count.

Happy 10b

No cromo shafts, no special Cs no titanium ring gear bolt retaining washer zinc plated torque washer crap, just a plain old 10b and a good bit of realistic driving, if it binds I rethink, I know whats up there....

Had a 10 bolt front, 8 lug axle, stock 30 spline shafts new 760x joints, DETROIT locker, 38 tsls pushed by a twicked 4.0 HO with a NV4500 and a D300. I did lots of front digs on the rev limiter and beat the crap out of it in a 3400 pd rig in Harlan, Tellico, and lots of other places, took the hard lines and never the bypass. I broke 2 warn hubs, 1 stub and a couple 760 joints and the last failure was the front yoke on the D300.
:flipoff2: to the :bling: hardware, all hail the polished turd.

Hate to hijack but while we're on the 10blt, does anyone know if/where the gear ratio is stamped on the axle? Thanks alot.

Also if you run 15" rims you might have to do alittle grinding. Just did mine about week ago and with 4" back spacing alot of grinding is needed.
