GM ABS light

I bought a 2004 GMC Sierra Z-71 Quad cab truck a few months back and the ABS light came on today. None of the local auto part stores could help me out cause they didn't have anything to read the code for an ABS. I was told it could be a hub sensor, fluid levels or a tail lamp out. I checked fluids and lamps, all were fine. Anyone here had any problems with this and found the solution before I have to take to a dealership who will charge me 100 bucks to tell me I need a $20 part? Thanks.

Check the sensor harnesses at each wheel, also check that the hub unit bearings are not loose. if there is slop in the hub bearings, this will short an ABS sensor, and set the code. as will any breaks in the harness.

About the only way to read the code is to have an ABS capable scan tool, fortunately, when you fix it the ligth will got out on the next key cycle. Unlike OBD2 code which may take upwards of 30+ to completely clear from the ECM.

Those trucks also had issues with the ECBM ( electronic brake control module) due to moisture and poor connections. It might be worth a dealer trip to see if it has had any recall repairs due to it. ( there are an ass load of recalls on these trucks, not nessisarlly silent, but not well publisized, and they don't try real hard to find the current owner when they are issued)
