On thsi kind of expense, the lawyer will be worth the money, trust me.

WTF do you mean by "give them 33%"? You mean for the lawyer's fee? They really don't take that much, technically they can't take any amount that is only to recover your expenses, only the extra that is P & S etc.
If you didn't know already, NC has some interesting loopholes you can take advantage of here to ensure you get what is coming to you. For example, you bills can be charged to (a) his insurrance (b) your insurrance and possibly also (c) your auto insyrrance depending on your policy. it's called double billing as is actually legal in NC - the logic is kid of strange but when you work through it, it makes sense.

Get a lawyer, and be willing to wait it out to get a good settlement. You're going to be dealing with back pain for life with a cracked backbone, it's worth it to wait, be patient, and get alot more money. My brother still has issues from when he cracked his L5 back in '96

i had the same scenario as you. GMAC was who my claim was with too. I got a lawyer, he walked away with $3000.00 and i had $5500.00. just enough to pay my doctor bills up to that point. Not to mention i was underpayed about 4 grand for my dodge that was totalled. but i suppose that was my fault, tried to do that one without a lawyer.

Accident suck. Lawyers suck. Insurance companies suck. and Damaged back bones SUCKKKKKKKKK.

it's been over a year since my accident and i definatly am still dealing with the pain. Most times you just get so used to the pain being there you dont notice it. lol, i do stop to analyze the weight of objects before i stoop to pick them up!

my neighbor hit my jeep and he had gmac insurance. they paid 100% of the damage and paid for the rental car, etc. etc. etc. Very easy to deal with for me as the victim. but, I didn't have thousands of $$$ of doctors bills so your situation may be viewed a little different in their eyes.

Get a lawyer. Most think lawyers rip you off (and often do), but there are times when they are needed and the $$$ is well worth it. Just make sure you get someone you can trust.
