what would be a good rig to use as a dd? something thats capable of being a good rig off road maybe later like a wrangler or something of that nature. looking for something that gets atleast 20 mpgs. dont really know if this is possible but just wondering. i like sammis but still looking around a little right now cause sammis come and go.

How about a 4runner?

Sorry for the plug, but they really are great rigs.

I just bought a 95 XJ. Gonna be my DD and mild weekend wheeler. Not sure if it will get 20mpg but better than the 8-10mpg my 78 Chevy got before.

yea looked at a few but dont really know much about what years are better etc. i looked up mpgs and it seemed that the older they were the better mpgs they got. even with the carb.

i think im gonna get a sammi. seen a few on here that sound kinda good. just going to keep my eyes open

If that's about XJs I think its quite the opposite. The '97+ redesign was supposed to be a bit more aerodynamic. HP goes up (not too dramatically) over the years so maybe those who are heavy on the skinny pedal got worse mileages.

You may have found gas mileages for either 4-cylinder, the GM 2.8 v6 or a non-HO 4.0, all of which are considered less desireable than the HO 4.0.

My '97 XJ/HO4.0/aw4 would get 21-22 on long highway trips if I drove 55 the entire way when it was bone stock. It was very hard having the patience to do it but $ worth it. If I got antsy and drove 70-75 the whole way it dropped down to 15-16mpg range.

My roommate has a '95 on 31s with the manual...

Manuals came with 3.07 gears, he gets awful mileage out of it (something like 10-12 mpg). Mine on 33s was getting 15 pretty regularly around town.

4-runners are good rigs too, for a light wheeler/DD you'd be happy with either one.

I know the WIDER the tire also kills gas mileage also and I speak of results on my street trucks. 1990 suburban went from 17 -19 hgy and installed a set of 33-12.5s and went 8-10 ! Also mounted with a set of aluminum 15 x 10 rims, looked awsome! but sucked gas.

xj cuz the $ you will save on it (considering yotas are considered gold around here) and no ifs yes u will have a dana 30 but its better than ifs imho. also a xj with a 3 in lift will suprise the hell out of u on the trail

the only thing is it wont be on the trail it will be a mall crawler. becuase when im at home on saturdays i'm usually working a 10 hour day or if its raining i'm doin a little resto on my 74. for now unless it changes id like to have more mpgs and a fun little ride. thats why i've been looking for sammis because i love the convert on my k5
