does anyone know of a good machine shop around raleigh that i could take my engine to that will do what machine work i need so i can stroke my engine

we have been threw this before on this furom, I do like joel, and he is probably a good machinist i have never had anything that wasn't good from him, but they are definetly not my first choice. they are slow and have had some bad dealings w/ them from a business stand point. No to mention they are now owned by t-hoff and work out of there durham store location.

For machine work T-hoff in raleigh is the place to go. Kerry usually answers the phone they are top notch fast and have never had any issues whatsoever with them. tell him CHase sent you, they are good people all of them.

They are owned by T-hoff and work out of their Durham location, but it's the same guys working there. I do all their powdercoating work. They are slow on occasion, I'll give you that. They have a motor of mine over there now, actually.

I've had some bad dealings with the T-hoff in Raleigh before, too. It's been years, and the guy who screwed it up has disappeared, but it still happened.

Every machinist is going to have good and bad feed. Joel had a set of heads of mine for 2 years and 2 moves. But he still had them just like they were when I went to pick them up. Nice guy but works by himself and not too fast.
The dude will talk the ears off a billygoat but Bill Houser in Fuquay Varina, "Bill's Speed Shop" is an excellent choice if you ask me. He built my 302 in my truck and it's been one tuff motor. Got 80,000 on it now and the cam is just now getting broke in. He's done other work for me and never dissatisfied.

I just had a motor done at T-Hoff. The bore and hone was something like $125-150 for a V8... but the final tally on an unassembled bottom end (pistons pressed on, nothing else) was more like $1600. Obviously, that's going to vary from motor to motor. Your best bet is just to call Kerry and ask.

yeah i was maybe hoping to be able to do the whole thing including parts for some where around $1400. having such a new vehicle sucks when it comes to engine swaps. if i had a yj i would be throwing in a 350 or 5.0 in a heart beat for probably under a $1000

You can do it for that. Im working on a stroker for my buddy right now, and will have right at $1400 in everything.
