im looking into a set of goodyear r/t 36x12.5r16.5's for my 4runner. why are these tires just not common to see on the trail and on the street? they are easy to come by and cheap.

do they ride rough, too heavy?

right on,
im asking if they are a good tire, why doesnt any one run them?

IMO I think they are a good general purpose tire I have ran them and got good milage out of them on the road and the ride wasnt that bad and got
decent performance offroad and the best part they are cheap
I have also ran the wrangler M/T 37x12.50x16.5 radials and they didnt ride or perform any better on road than the the 36s but the M/T sucked offroad
Bottom line is this
if I had something with 16.5 rims I would have a set on them
:burnout:

i've always heard complaints of hard to balance, poor tread design, and too hard of a compound. that said, i don't see how they can be that bad if you look at it from a $$ standpoint.

well ive got a set that im trying to get rid of if youre trying to give them a try... not in perfect shape or anything, but asking $75

let me know if youre interested

I've torn more than a few sidewalls on them, but thinking back, not sure if it's because they're weak, or if the tire got pinched in the run flat.

From what I've read here and there they are an OK allround tire, but worthless on rocks. not like we have any around here anyway. couldn't be too bad with a little sipe and groove though right

ive heard that they preform well on the road, and obviosuly they must do atleast decent in the sand (military uses them for years), and ive heard that if you but the center lug out, they will do decent in the mud as well

they must do atleast decent in the sand (military uses them for years),

All that means is GoodYear came in with the lowest bid meeting specs.

Best sand tire I've ever seen was a M/T Sportsman.. I swear. Not too good for off-road though..

I have run them on a grand cherokee before offroad they were fine, not the best I've run or the worst. On the road they were terrible. These tires are better suited on a heavy vehicle 1 tons or h1s. Sometimes you can run across an exceptional set. Good Luck

I have a set of them on my blazer. They have a little shake to them at lower speeds but once you get going they're fine. I haven't had any problems with mine and they aren't too bad offroad.
