anybody know anything about gorilla winches? ive been looking at a cheap winch and i can get a 12k gorilla on ebay for about $330 shipped if i buy it today (10% off special ebay sent me). thanks for ANY info or opinions on this.

you have to ask yourself...... Self, why is it you can a 12K# gorilla winch for $330 vs over a $1000 for a 12K# Warn/Ramsey/MileMarker?
maybe the same reason you can buy clothes at walmart for a third of the price of name brand clothes, they prolly last just as long.

i know you get what you pay for, and im not one to buy cheap crappy stuff, but i am one to save money when i can. im not going to be using this winch alot, once every month or so to winch cars on my trailer, and i'll take it with me on the trails just in case. im going to make a receiver mount for it.

thanks for the input, and i have been looking for a good used warn, but i cant find one in my price range.

anyone else?

You also have to ask you self - "Self, does it matter how many times you will use it, or rather the onsequences of it failing just one time?" If you are just loading a car onto trailer, and it fails - maybe no big deal.
If you are in the wood middle of nowhere very much stuck and it fails - much bigger problem. Perhaps the extra $$ saved could be used on a come-along as a backup.

Maybe when the load is a lightweight vehicle, a 12k-rated Gorilla is pretty much just as dependable as say a 8-9k rated warn/samsey. I dunno.
The real question is, what is different that makes them cheaper, as is this a component you are concerned about.

Can't speak to the "gorilla" winches, but I also got the same comments regarding the $299 Northern Hydraulics 4000# (de-badged & de-rated Ramsey REP8000) I bought 8 years ago...

To date, I've broken the gear cluster end, single line pulling stumps in the backyard (replaced with used cluster for $40) and it's still alive today...

IMO, some folks could destroy an anvil with a feather and every manufacturer has a bad production day. It appears I'm fortunate to have relatively trouble free "cheap winch" and smart enough to know "when" it's time to ask for help...
