Don't listen to all the doom and gloom.

DON'T rush off and do an EGR delete

Buy an Edge Insight CS or CTS and monitor your engine oil temp and engine coolant temp. And if they get to more that +/-15 degrees difference THEN you need to have the oil cooler looked at and possibly replaced.

Other than that, run the piss out of it, and keep up with the maintenance.

OH...alot of the guys with 6.0's have said that replacing the coolant (Here is the thread) will help with the oil cooler clogging up, but no real facts on that. (BTW may have to register to see the thread)

And one last thing...SCUFFY828 is a member there and he runs a very reputible deisel repair shop on old 52 just north of Hickory tree road in the Wallburg area called "Trucks Unlimited"

His name is Scott and many hold his opinion pretty high.

sounds good the Egr system was just replaced and up dated got the paper work from the po for 2300 worth of work also just had new bfg ats installed on it too.

I want to open up the exhaust on it ( Delete the cat and muffler) anyone had it done and if so where did you go to get it done. I got a quote for 150 but that seems high for a 4' pipe

That's actually not bad.

The kit I keep seeing pop up and praised is this one

A lot of people say that the 4" is just as good...until you HEAR a 5" system...then you know there's a difference.

But this system is a turbo-back that requires you remove the downpipe. And that requires you to cut it to remove it. And with the 6.0 being a real bitch to do any work near the turbo (hence why a lot of people opt to pull the cab to do head work etc) I'd say $150 to install a turb0-back would be worth MY time anyway.

Then again....it's the internet  so you hear a lot of hub-bub about the MBRP exhaust and how it's superior.

To ME....it's thin-wall tubing  and unless you're drag racing or sled pulling....getting a NAME on your exhaust for almost twice as much really ain't worth it.

I just think 150 is high would pay 80 no problem but for 150 I can add some too it and get a full exhaust system

what if I cut it and put a turn down on it would that hurt anything engine wise not enough back pressure?

It is a tow rig. Leave it stock and keep your money in the bank. If you want to go fast, buy a light weight fast car.

Turbo diesel doesn't need back pressure, it needs to breathe.
I put a turndown on mine (7.3 thou), 4" turbo back, straight thru MBRP (was louder without MBRP but when the EBP valve kicked in during winter sounded like a jet plane straight piped).

ok thanks for the info. Still not sure think im going to get the cat and muffler deleted and save up for the 5'' turbo back

id stay with the 4in you will loose alot of low end pull.. had a buddy that got a 5in back didnt like it and swapped it back just a thought.... also had a buddy install the 4in mbrp had it on for two weeks and the cut the muffler off it.. just a couple thoughts.. im glad i didnt spend the cash..

don't waste money on a 5", 4" is all you need to help with EGT if you ever program it. Don't buy an edge just to monitor engine temp oil temp w/e. Damn sure don't program it with an edge device. Buy a coolant filter kit for it. Its the sand used in the casting process that clogs the oil cooler and makes that part over heat. Perfect time if all that stuff has just been serviced as you don't want to clog it up again.

I don't have an EGR delete on mine and was also told by a dealer it wasn't fully functioning and my intake was full of soot. Haven't had a problem yet except a stuck turbo once Knock on wood. Keep th oil changes and it should take care of you.

If you do program, SCT Only by a reputable custom tuner. And I wouldn't even bother w/o and EGR delete and head studs at a minimum. IT WILL LIFT THE HEADS. An as far as sound the 4" is plenty loud lol.

Guess I will just have the cat and muffler cut out and straight piped then. What about a banks kit?

don't buy banks stuff either, lol. its way overpriced and has same programing issues as others. you can piece together better quality and better performing products than what you get from them. I'ts a well engineered kit but way over priced and you cant beat custom tuning.

if I were you I would stick to just exhaust for now and a cat muffler delete should be fine for now. it will sound just as good as any other straight piped truck. The factory airbox is good for 450-500hp. the only reason to change it is to gain a little more engine compartment room. but don't expect any noticeable power from intake or exhaust on these trucks.

In order I'd do mods; engine coolant filter(cheap like $150)>exhaust>EGR delete and studs (which is no easy task, got to pull the Cab)>programer (SCT not sure who has good 6.0 stuff right now, but id probably go river city diesel) A lot of programers say there safe but IMO its not worth the risk, Id say %99 of the time after running a hot tune you'll be doing head studs and head gaskets before long.
