Got a little transmission question.

My brothers car has some tranny problems. Wont even go into gear. Before that happened, it was making a horrible clanking noise. At first i thought it might've been the engine. but now i know its not. Its a TH400 in a 71 buick skylark.
 
Was wondering if anybody ran into this sort of problem.

Ya, this would be technically referred to as "Time for a rebuild".

Big clanky banging noises that suddenly stop 9 times out of 10 don't mean the problem fixed itself. It means the part let loose. :flipoff2:
 
so, a whole tranny rebuild is in order then. Whatta u think that'll cost?
 
Dunno, never touched one before. And i'm pretty sure my bro wont let me. If it was mine, i would do it in a heartbeat.
 
complete build kit, pump and TC are gonna run you ~ 175
Labor will vary from $100 - $400 depending...

That is assuming you R&R it yourself
