hey, i'm looking for a gps unit for my mom...simple, large screen, and don't need all the bells and whistles like bluetooth and such. i've read some of the reviews on c-net about tomtom, but does anybody else have any suggestions??

thx in advance...

I have a Magellin. Its simple, 3.5" screen and the cheapest one out there. It can plug in or run off an internal batt. Its updatable via their website and an SD memory card. It will do the trick, its pretty much idiot proof.

love my tom tom xl1

tigerdirect has refurbs less than 1/2 price

tom tom 720 is freaking awesome, the more you use it the more it learns what roads you prefer to take, plus has a mp3 player... and pretty directions.

Circuit City and several other vendors, such as Amazon, have the Garmin Nuvi 660 on sale refurbed right now. Looks like a nice unit. I've got a Nuvi 205w, and for a bare bones unit, it's pretty nice.

I use the USB GPS antenna for laptops. Its not as easy to use for the average person but I have to carry the laptop anyway and I didnt want to keep up with another device. Can be purchased for around $50. I use Microsoft Streets and Trips software.
