Grand Cherokee problem

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It has a v8 and 4 wheel drive. I have had no real problems out of it untill just recently. I was going down the interstate pulling a trailer around 65 or so and all of the sudden the rpm's drop and I had to coast to the side of the road. It was still ideling, I would give it gas and it would spit and sputter and eventualy cut off. I sat there for about 15 minutes then restarted it and it was fine. About 10 minutes later it did it again. I turned aound an headed home. It continued to act funny the whole way home. Sometimes i could get it up to 60mph and sometimes it would only go 15 mph. The check engine light never came on. I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, throttle position sensor, fuel pump relay, spark plugs, and the bank 1 o2 sensor. The fuel pump seemed to help the most. I think i drove it for almost a week before it did it again. It seems to happen if im running at high speeds for a long time rather than just riding around town. or if im putting a load on it like pulling a trailer or going 4-wheeling.
Could it be my computer?
I dont know.
Any thoughs or suggestions would help.

It could be the crank position sensor, mine did that before but i had the I6

I know you replaced the fuel pump but it really sounds like you are losing fuel pressure. See if you can get a fuel pressure gauge and watch the pressure when it is doing it.

does sound alot like the crank sensor but you're right, it should throw a code. Check easy stuff first (ignition components, fuel pressure, etc) then look into sensors and stuff if that doesn't fix it.

similar thing happened to me. I suspected it was bad gas and I left it at the Jeep dealership for them to deal with it since it was under warranty and they replaced and checked all the stuff you did to your Jeep and didnt solve anything. So i called them and told them to listen to me and drain the gas tank...they did and guess what? Jeep ran perfect.

so just check it out...

I agree, gas problem. Put some HEAT fuel conditioner in the tank, as much as the bottle recommends. May displace the water if it has any. Then its on to the fuel delivery and it may be the filter or pump. If you have no way to diag and want to do the driveway Goober thing, put the HEAT in the tank and change the fuel filter. Go drive it to slosh the fuel+HEAT and if its water, it will likely start clearing up. If not, likely the fuel pump or a mechanical problem and there should be a code for it. Auto Zone or Advance Auto will check for codes for free.

Whew.....

That'd be a helluva note to pay $3 a gal for water! The thing about Heet is that it just encases the water in a kind of jell that sits on top of the fuel in the tank. If you get too low on fuel, guess what. Seen a guy that used it every other tank and eventually he had to pull the tank and remove the blob. I guess it'd work ok if used just once or twice though... Good luck.
