i was wondering what the condition of this road is right now. I haven't been up there in awhile and didn't know if it would be a bad idea to pull my loaded trailer over the gravel road that goes from the Tn side into NC. i have done it before and it wasn't to bad just wondering how bad it has gotten

4x4 tow rig and you're fine...I pulled with a 2wd PSD dually through there loaded and you get one chance at making the switchbacks before it turns into a clusterF#@k.

X3, was up there in May. They have graded the main switchback but it is still hard to do towing a rig in 2wd. I had a broken stub on my Ram 2500 and like BW said, you get one chance. Then I started the backing, taking a run at it senario. Turned into that cluster thing but I made it. Shouldn't be a problem for you at all if you have 4wd.

thanks that is what i needed to know we all have 4wd tow rigs so we should be fine as long as it doesn't decide to rain for a solid day between now and this weekend

I've seen 4WD's (tow rigs, towing a loaded trailer) not make the switchbacks!
If you have someone with you that can drive the trail rig, let them drive it to the top, then load it on the trailer. No issues and only a little extra time.

Oh and coming back, when it's dry the gravel is like marbles, so might be wise to do the same in reverse.

i am leaving to go thursday night and i will be there thru sunday. I have a group of about 7 going. 2 from kentucky 3 from raleigh and 2 from knoxville. I grew up in Murphy so i am pretty familiar with that road it just changes so much you never know what you are getting into with it. Thanks for the info

are you going to be riding on sunday? i am interested in joining you if you don't mind. i may be able to ride saturday if you are leaving on sunday.

sorry hamilton i didn't get back with you i never checked here before i left. We didn't go on sunday anyway we got screwed on saturday they had people working on the trails, and we were turned around 3 times and told we had to go a different way we were only able to hit one obstacle which was peckerwood on saturday. and it took us until about 3:30 that afternoon to get back to the gravel road. We were irritated so we packed up and went to windrock on Sunday and had a blast.

yeah, one obstacle a day in tellico would suck, especially if you drove all the way from cin, oh. almost not even worth going, or so ive been told.
