Dipstick who put two vehicles on jack stands

Sometime between 7pm Tuesday night and 5pm Wednesday night Someone took down several wreaths and bows that my wife put on trees and the mailbox at the front of our property by the road and threw them about on the ground. My guess is that it is probably some neighborhood kids. My wife is super pissed. We would like to install some kind of camera system at the front of the property. Next time this happens I would love to be able to retrieve footage of the offender in action, print out pictures of them and put them in everyone's mailbox in our neighborhood.
What do you all suggest? What are your experiences with installing cameras for this sort of thing? Just a couple of good game cameras that can store tons of pictures, or a real multi camera surveillance system? We live in a court, so anyone coming in the court right in front of our house would likely set off the camera, such as the mailman, trash truck, neighbors who live in the court in their cars, walking by etc. I have set up an appointment next week with a security company that installs camera systems but if it can by done DIY to save some money I would be interested. I know absolutely nothing about this kind of thing and am not tech savvy at all. Our house is about 400-500ft from the road where I would like one of the cameras. I have seen some wireless camera systems that claim to go up to 500ft. We would be at that limit.
