He was a 14 year old golden retriever. He had developed some kind of skin disease that made him itch like crazy and had gotten to the point where he could rarely stand up without one of us helping him to get up. When he would walk, sometimes he would fall. In fact he fell down in the parking lot at the vet this morning. Medicine and a number of trips to the vet didn't help much.
We stayed in there with him till he was gone. It was hard to watch, but peaceful.

I lost my grandfathers dog like this about a month ago. Same symptoms. Horners Syndrome, i think.
It's very hard to lose a friend like that. :/

I know the feeling all to well... we put my parents dog down not to long ago... we got her when I was 6 and I'm almost 23 now... its hard but it will get better

I know how it is to loose a good friend like that. Try to think of it as the last good thing you did for your friend.

man i am so sorry to hear this i have 3 dogs and i am going to hate it dearly when they leave but look at it like lug nut said

The wife and I are sad, but relieved he's not suffering anymore. She's already talking about finding another dog. I told her whenever she wants to get one we'll get one.

My golden is 13 going through the same issues. Hips are getting worse; Dad is taking her to the vet tomorrow in fact. It'll be sad no doubt....

Hate to hear it, I know what you are going through.

Put my best friend of 13 years down 8 weeks ago. It is very hard to deal with, because they are part of the family

man i'm sorry for your loss. like others have said it's hard to loose a pet after
that much time.
might i recomend a rescue dog. there are lots of loving animals in shelters
just waiting for a new home. a puppy always helps the healing process.

remember don't breed or buy while pets in shelters die.
adopt your new best friend today.

dawg

I'm sorry for your loss, dogs are truly some of the best members of the family.

I still am sad when I think of Drifter, we picked him up at mile marker 3 in Wyoming! Had to put him down 4 years ago. Sorry for your loss.

Yes, We are more the rescue type. Did you see my thread around Christmas about the cat we rescued? Well, actually the fire dept rescued it from the storm drain, I just brought it home.
