So I have been considering getting a half hardtop for my yj. One problem.........cant find one. Gr8 tops makes one for a tj but not a yj. Any ideas besides not running a top

Have to talked to the owner of GR8 tops? I would think he could have one made for a YJ. Seems like he's been making the tops since before the TJ's came out.

What kind of fabrication skills do you have, and tools? If you have a welder and have played with fiberglass you could duplicate this but obviously lots of work.

As far as TJ vs YJ doors, find a couple buddies with TJ and YJ full size doors, pull them off and sit them beside each other.

What you want to compare is the curvature of the piece going around the window on top/rear. If they are a "lot" different then modifying the TJ 1/2 top will be a pita, gr8 folks might do it but $$$. (YJ market not big enough to make it worth their trouble.

SO....here is what I would do....if you really really want a 1/2 top.

Step One, buy a 1/2 top for a CJ8 - I believe they are rare but exist for the Scramblers.

Step Two, buy CJ full size doors (prob will end up getting both from same place) CJ and YJ doors pretty well swap, one "possible" issue will be door latch.

Step Three, the CJ 1/2 tops for scramblers that I have seen, all utilize an internal rollbar, so your current one will have to go. So yank yours, install the 1/2 top, and THEN have someone custom bend you a new one to fit inside your new 1/2 top.

Step Four, paint to match, and then show off to jealous friends...

Step Five...figure out that getting full size doors and a full size hard top would have been one heck of a lot cheaper and easier to do, but no, you walk the path others dare not tread, keep telling yourself this....heh.... :)

i used a old busted cj top. i cut it near the front of the windows. then i used a windjammer and duster cover .. with full steel doors it really worked good

or just get a scramler top and modify it ... u will have to change the roll bars and do i little grinding to the top at the back corners.

but I already half a full size top :flipoff2:

and yea I know its pointless thing to do but I like the look:bounce2:

Do like stated above. find a cj8 half top and bulk head. you will have to fab an incab cage and completely remove your factory rollbar. The cj8 top will fit the tub and winsheild frame with no problems and the bulkhead can be bolted in using self drilling screws. the biggest concern will be what to do for roll protection.
