So, was at the new place (BF Patrick County VA) this weekend with one of the dogs. Let her out, she ran 75 yards to the property line and started raising hell...

She won't go any further (because she's on an FM "fence" collar & gets 1.21 jiggawatt reminder to stop), but we realized our usual array of flashlights (multi-100 lumen pocket carries or D-cell Maglight) wouldn't reach out far enough to find her in the dark, much less what she's raisin' at across the creek.

Started looking at the various Stanley (Fat Max), Brinkman (Q-Beam), StreamLight, & multiple Chiwanesse offerings on Amazon and all appear to be a crapshoot... either great light w/ crappy batteries/overcharging, great light w/ good batteries, but so fragile they destruct from drop to pillow, burn up from 2 drops of water, or some other combo.

  • Must be battery powered/rechargeable
  • Must be slightly rugged with some semblance of "moisture resistance"
  • Usable 300+ yard beam should cover it
  • Color filters/lenses for secondary use would be a plus
While I'd prefer LED, would go halogen if that gets me bright AF and "Oh look... it's a _____" to the other side of the property.

Anyone found a brand/model that sticks out above the rest?

Ive got about 6 of these I bought at Costco 7-8 years ago.
They were like $40 for the pair then.

The description here says 3 levels of brightness. Mine has 4 settings: low/high/sos/strobe. The settings are changed by clicking the on off button.
It also has a slide beam adjuster. On spot light I can light up the road which is ~ 1000' away

They arent perfect, but like I said Ive had 6 of them banging around toolboxes, truck doors and boat boxes for 7 years and all still work. Even though a couple of them the connectors got loose and I had to install a quarter in the battery tube to tighten up the connection. Runs on a couple C batteries.

They come in 500 and 1000 lumen variesties. I have the 1000.

What brand power tool batters you got? I use Miilwaukee cordless stuff. Got their M18 spotlight, it is bright, focused, and I got enough M18 batteries to run it for a week straight.

Iirc, dewalt has a decent spotlight too....
