Well I finally did it, half of my orange F-150 is at the scrap yard and the rest will be there as soon as I take the drivetrain out of it. I feel like I just broke up with a girlfriend of eight years. But when one door closes another opens I guess.

1975 CJ-5, picked it up yesterday afternoon. I am pretty excited about the project ahead of me. The aftermarket for these jeeps is crazy (I'm a newb to jeeps). I am going to keep my head on straight with this build and do it in phases. First order of business will be to take the tub off the frame and clean up rust on the frame, which is solid, and tackle the few rust holes on the body... and also try to match the pale orange color that was on my F-150. After that, I want to drop the 302 into it and hopefully just drive it like that while I earn the money to swap in my built C6. As more money and time head my way I will eventually swap in the rest of my drivetrain which sort of poses another problem, in that it is about as long as the Jeep its self; C6 and doubler.
One idea was to put the jeep body on the F-150 frame but I think that would open a whole mess of problems. Anyway, expect some questions later down the road from me about body repair and jeep drivetrains.

lol, hell, i got rid of my big red bronco II 5 or 6 years ago. Good luck on the new project.

good luck

Good luck on the new build. Does it run now? Might be kind of fun to wheel it like it is for a season before tearing it apart. Don't want it to end up like the f150.

no it doesn't run right now, apparently it was run hot and the PO got only as far as pulling the head off the 258, it has been sitting ever since. As long as everything still rotates in the existing drivetrain I do want to run that with my 302 dropped in... after I go through the body and frame of course. Im thinking while I have the tub off the frame I will go ahead and drop the 302 on it and go through the tranny, t-case and axles to make sure they are all good. I definitely want to run it as is for a while.

Great find! One thing to keep in mind is that the vast majority of aftermarket parts are for 76-86 cj's. There are still plenty of parts available for early cj's but not as many. http://www.earlycj5.com/ is a great site if you're new to early jeeps.

been doing a small amount of thinking and it might be a bit cheaper/quicker if i get the 258 running again, not sure though, the jeep is at our farm so i cant stand around and stare at it and think/plan.

just going to bring this back from the dead real quick to say that i love working on this thing!! No trick engineering, no stupid rivets, all nuts and bolts. Got the body apart in one day with no air or power tools, all though it would have been done in about half the time with them. There is more rust than I would like to deal with but oh well, Im still excited about it.
