Anyone use one to find a job?

I've been looking for either A: another part time job, or B: a good full time job.

I love my job now, pay is amazing and the work itself is great and fun; but it's only part time so I don't get too many hours plus it drops off severely during the cold months.

I'd really like to do estimating for a construction company, or maybe logistics as that's kind of what I do now.

But, anyway, any ideas on using a head hunter? My girlfriend doesn't like the idea but a few of my friends have used them in the past.

A head hunter found me a job in Lansing, NC. I had no negotiation room at all, it was take thier offer or leave it. I took the job since it was all I had at the time. Plus I found this site while I was there.

It has been hit n' miss for me. Last year I was talking to 2 head hunters, both seemed rather uninterested in finding me a job and more about talking on the phone about nothing. Finally after 3 weeks of getting, "Call me back" messages, I ignored em. Never looked back.

I'm currently working with one head hunter on getting a job, replied to a craigslist ad (of all things!). If they are serious, then you'll know it up front. They want everything NOW, like cover letters, resumes and references.

I'm a "head hunter"(hate that name) I might be able to help... send me a PM with your email. If I can't help you I have a couple people in town that I trust that can.

I use head hunters all the time in my field. (Info Tech.) In IT, majority of the companies like to hire from these types of agencies because it gives them a chance to evaluate the prospect before deciding to hire them on permanently. It's easier for them to pay a little more on the hour for a contractor and let them go than to hire someone on and 2 weeks later have to fire them. The downside to going this route is the benefit package typically sucks. However, the pay is higher. (At least it is in my field.) Anyways, long story short, they are a great way to find a job and you can sometimes land some very good jobs through them.

The best way I have found to deal with head hunters(recruiters) is to drop them your info and let them call you. If you pester them they tend to become unresponsive. I have used a couple in the past and have had good and bad results.
