I want to put some new headlights in my CJ. I want to put some spots or equivalent. This is a daily driver and I am aware that it may be stretching the Law a bit. What can I get away with and what is the best bang for my buck? Thanks for all suggestions.

Best bang for your buck would be european-spec H4 lamps. Spots are basically useless in most conditions short of high-speed dez stuff.

E-code lamps aren't exactly legal in the US, but the light pattern is much better than SAE stuff, and they're not likely to attract attention from the LEOs.

I just installed a pair a few wks ago... about $80, IIRC.

Ditto what he said, though I went the cheap route and got some e-bay $30 specials - threw the blue bulbs as far as I could, put some regular clears in it, and they really work quite well!

Ive got a set of IPF reflectors with Narva 130/100watt bulbs and they put out a huge amount of light, but I haven't had anyone flash their lights at me because of the glare. I got the housings from http://www.rocky-road.com/jeepipf.html for about $70 shipped and the bulbs from Daniel Stern lighting for somewhere around $17/each, but he was rather difficult to deal with, and I felt took a little long on the shipping.

Any issue with the wiring harness going with more juice?

You MUST upgrade the wiring harness - you'll get a boost just from that.. the 55/60 watt H4's do a great job when fed good voltage.

If you are worried about legal go with Hella Vision Plus and upgrade the harness. The difference between 10-11v and 14.7 at the bulb is unbelievable. I made my upgrade myself a couple relays, wire and plugs.

Could i get a list of stuff you used to upgrade that harness? It would be much appreciated.
2 HD relays
2 replacment plugs for headlights
wire
2 fuse holders
went from the stock headlight plug to the relays, back to the headlights. the stock harness now trips the relays and battery voltage to the headlights. I did not cut the stock harness so if my harness fails I can go back to stock to get home.
