The problem is I've caught a skunk in the ole live trap and don't really know what to do. I've done some research and some says to shoot it in the head/spine some says chest but there's no guarantee it won't spray either way. It's near the interstate so I hate to shoot it. Some says to put cage and all in a trash can full of water and you know. But I have to get close to it to do that and I really don't want to. Anybody know how long it would take to dehydrate if I just left it there? Bad thing it's near my garden and me and the kids are always down around there. I'd pay someone to come get this thing and dispose of it. From the research I found out it's illegal to let it loose since they carry rabies so you'll have to kill it. Please tell me what to do or come get it for me.

P.S. Funny story. I'm all worried about this smell from the skunk but as I was typing this my wife was letting my 16 month old boy run around naked after his bath and he just pooped a big log in the floor and it stinks awful. Guess I better clean it up.

Put a tarp over the cage and run a hose from an exhaust pipe under the tarp. Choke what ever you use about half way and put the little guy a sleep. . . For ever! :)

If your feeling lucky you can take 2 lawn sized trash bags, customize one to fit over you and bum rush him. Maybe you can get the whole trap in the second bag before he pulls the trigger on you. My plan ends there, after that your on your own haha.

:lol::lol:

Just walk down there and pick up the trap...make sure there is plenty of good lighting, and the camera is rolling.

I'd just put a few .22's in his head. Don't leave him in there to die a slow death.

I think this is a good time to get back some of your tax's you've paid over the years.
Call the Burke County Animal Control.
Oh, and by the way, I won't be able to make it to your house today, or,...anytime soon!
Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy! LOL

we caught one in a live trap when i was in school, and some of the guys when up to the cage kicking it and knocking the cage over just being asses but no spray maybe the cage scared it and it sprayed and sprayed until it was sprayed out i can come shoot it but you gotta handle the rest

I worked pest control one summer. When we trapped a skunk we approached with a large tarp in front of us dropped the ratio over him then wrapped the ratio around the cage dropped the whole cage tall and all in a plastic box and filled it with co2

Big "F"n tarp and couple pounds dry ice. Be creative and quick. Hope the wind keeps blowin' eastward or I will have to miss a weeks worth of visits to Nanny's. Good luck! I can't be much more help.

If your calm about it, and use a large tarp like everyone has said, he wont even know your there.

Chances are you can cover him in the tarp, move him to a safe place to release and set him on his way without ever having been sprayed.

If your not brave enough, call animal control. or Deputy 244...some one owes him a prank anyway!

I am by no means experienced in this area, but a friend of mine, who has a chicken farm that gets raided by skunks all the time, told me that when a skunk raises his tail initially, it can't spray. He said it has to drop it's tail and raise it again to spray. Kinda like a pump. He said that you should be able to pick up the trap and move it or shoot the critter while still in the cage without getting sprayed.

I heard hittin em with pepper spray prevents them from being able to spray, confuses their sense of smell.

I'd wait til the wind is blowing pretty good, come in on him from downwind so he dont smell ya coming, then blast him with some pepper spray. I garauntee you wont smell him at all!

quit bein a girlie-man and just walk out there, open the trap and let it loose. they only spray when they're threatened anyway.

wow! cant wait to hear how this comes out! LOL!

I was going to call you and tell you I had another pet to give you.haha

Thing is my wife says she won't get close to me for a while if I get sprayed by that thing and I really like getting close to her if you know what I mean.:bounce2:
I haven't done anything so far cause the wind has been blowing directly toward my house @ about 20mph all day so if it does let loose the inside of the house will be covered.

I thought about calling animal control and seeing if they would come get it since they carry rabies and all but I'm not sure about the legalities of trapping. What's the law on setting a live trap? I'm just trying to get an early start on keeping the varmits away from my garden since they ate more out of my garden than I did last year. One way or the other something is going to happen tomorrow so long the wind calms or blows the other way cause he is taking up valueable cage space. I will report back tomorrow.

I thought about posting a craigs list ad:

Free black and white cat. Caged and ready to be picked up at your convenience.

I like the C-list idea best of all. the way the wind blew last night the trap and black & white cat may be gone:)
