Truck has been flawless all scheduled maintenance. 112,000 miles

Driver reports he pulls off a red light and the truck begins skipping, jerking and nearly shutting off.
Driver pulls over and truck shuts off and wont re-crank.
Bring a spare truck - all gauges, lights and cluster look fine - as soon as try to crank goes dead wont even turn over.
Throw the jump box on it - fires fine. Put driver in spare and bring it back to shop.
Truck runs fine but has a CEL.
My scanner shows no active errors.
Drive it to Oreillys - run fine - Oreilly checks it and no active codes CEL still on.
On way back to shop erratic miss, hard buck start up and it limps back here.
Sit over night and drive it to mechanic 4 miles away. Initially runs fine, then miss starts back.
Mechanic diagnoses and determines back 4 coil packs all dead.
He wants to throw 8 coil packs and 16 plugs at it since they were due at 100k - but I feel like that wouldnt be intermittent.

Any experience, wisdom, random thoughts to check before we throw parts

Shewee, it’s not cheap to do plugs and coils on those engines. Did you replace the battery? Did you check the main ground connections?

We have alot of fords in our fleet and with all the computerized stuff these days, a battery on its way out causes all kind of issues. I don’t recall any of ours being as bad as you described but I would make sure the battery is good before I did anything else.

those coil packs could be dropping out when they heat up, load test the battery as mentioned too. could also be a ground issue when is heats up.

Battery was reading 12.8 truck off and didn’t drop below 12.3 cranking .
Didn’t meter it the day we put the jump box on it.

Terminals are clean.

Ground aligns with my suspicion but appear fine.

Canister purge solenoid is interesting and had t heard of it - so I’ll investigate before I throw $900 worth of tune up at it

And a coil pack has no life, plugs yes. I’ve worked on a lot these 6.2 and would only replace one failed coil pack, why replace with junk
