I don't really have any good advice, but i will tell you from experience that if you use the bellhousing bolts to pull it together, you can very easily bust the bellhousing.  VERY EASILY.

 

It may just need a lot wiggling to get everything lined up perfectly.  If the crankshaft and the input-shaft aren't in perfect alignment, it won't go.  It should fit really tight, but shouldn't require any force.  When it gets lined up properly, it should pretty much slide together.
