Hey, all
FNG here, first post......anyway, I just picked up a 79 CJ7. AMC 304/T150....the motor seems to be have been mildly warmed over.....it has an Edelbrock intake, MSD 6a, Motorcraft/magnetic pickup Dist...and the aforementioned Carter/Ed Performance series carb (I'm assuming 600 cfm).
The problem is that it runs rough at cruising speed........if I back off the throttle, or give it more throttle it reacts well...but wants to run rough (as though it's "loading up") at any constant speed. I put the vacuum gauge on it....got the timing right....got about 17lbs of steady vacuum with the air/idle mixtures......set the floats @7/16" and 1".....made sure the baseplate wasn't drawing air......and can't find any vacuum leaks.
Any thoughts before I drop 3+bills on a new carb?
Thanks for any help you can give.

EFI would be great....but maybe a lil costly. I went ahead and purchased a new Edelbrock 600 cfm...it's running fine now. Thanks Ray, and Hunterdan for the replies.
