help with gears needed

I have a 1988 chevy k1500 extended cab long bed 4x4. I blew the rear end out and i cant seem to figure out what the gear ratio is. whats the best way i can find it out?

should be a tag on your diff. cover that will have a ratio on it.

Post your location, there may be sombody clost to you that can help.

If you still can count the teeth on the ring gear and the pinion and then divide.

EX. 41 teeth on ring, 10 on pinion. 41/10=4.1

4.10:1 ratio.

look on the front diff. They should have the same ratio as the rear.

Rotate the driveshaft and count how many times it takes to turn the tires once. Make sure both tires turn evenly and same direction.

look in your glovebox for one of these codes on the sticker in it:

GQ1 -- AXLE REAR, STD RATIO
GT4 -- AXLE REAR, 3.73 RATIO
GT5 -- AXLE REAR, 4.10 RATIO
GU4 -- AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO
GU5 -- AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO
GU6 -- AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO
G80 -- AXLE REAR, LIMITED SLIP (POSITRACTION)
