I just finished this swap the other day. Its a 2004 5.7 Hemi motor into a 2005 Rubicon. I used the 545rfe automatic 5 speed transmission along with a custom wiring harness to maintain emissions legality and retain all the original dash gauge and light functions. The motor and transmission was rebuilt by myself and i installed a HD2 shift kit in the trans and a comp cams xfi cam in the motor.

It also utilizes an electric fan, custom crossmember to eliminate the skid plate/crossmember, custom motor mounts and exhaust.
This swap took quite a bit longer than expected due to parts unavailability, but the next conversion i do will only take 3-4 weeks to complete. I'm also looking to do a conversion using the 6.1 Hemi into a JK or TJ.

I can also do this conversion in practicially any jeep, CJ, YJ, TJ, XJ, JK, FJ's whatever. Its also possible to get a manual transmission instead of the auto

Here's some pics for everyone

Am I seeing that correctly, that the crossmember is welded to the frame, and then the driveline bolts to it?

MPG??? .... Well, its thirsty I will say that.

From what I read all over the place, Hemi motors get shitty MPG until they are broken in.... like for the first couple thousand miles. I have heard people say they started getting 8-13mpg and it later improved to 15-20mpg.

So far, I have only burnt down a 1/2 a tank. It is getting a little bit better than the 4.0 did, and thats with me enjoying the exhuast, and showing people how quickly it will jump up and run.

Im still waiting to really open it up and test it, but I want to put a few tanks through it before i really get on it.... Dont want that motor to blow because it isnt fully broken in.

I would say that right now it is getting 10-11mpg... but you know you cant go off your fuel guage, if it says 1/2 tank, you may have 5/8, you may have 3/8.. there is no telling for sure. It could be better or worse.... I will be sure to let everybody know when i find out.

if it is welded to the frame he would not be the only engineer to do this, many factory trucks are like this, i think GM is hiring.

Looks sweet, nice work.

If it were mine i would just ride around and smoke punk kids in hondas that would make them feel pretty foolish to get beat by jeep on 37's

The rear cross member is not welded to the frame, its bolted to the inside, and then the transmission mount bolts to it as well. Its a fully functioning crossmember that can be removed

Also the tube that is welded to the frame behind that is the housing for the antirock sway bar, not a cross member

so what is the MPG your getting?
I have a 2000 5.9 magnum i am putting in my cherokee

Well, the first full tank of gas burnt out of it got 12mpg.
Not the best in the world, but
A. it is better than what I got before.
B. Not too bad for a jeep on 36s

It seems to be getting more out of each tank I put in it, but I have only put about 450 miles on it so far, The motor is certainly not broken in yet.
