A co-worker of mine said: her husband got laid off and went into the unemployment office in Raleigh to see where else he could look for work, or what else he can do instead of just sending out resumes.

Well the person helping him was rude and not very helpful at all so he went to the manager and exlained his concern about the worker and that he was getting no assistance..

so the Mangers said well do you think you can do a better job?

He said yes.. so she hired him on the spot and he now has a job at the unemployment office :)

I'm NOT defending the unemployment office guy - but these days he must have a shitty job, busy all the time w/ 4 brazillian people wanting work, and chances are half of them are deadbeats anyway.

I guess that's one market that will always do best when times are hard.

thats cool, good luck to him.

I imagine there are more than just 4 Brazillian people looking for work, there are probably a lot of Americans, and probably some Mexicans too. :flipoff2::lol:

Not my company. We have brought all the fabric upholstery production back to the US. Now casegoods is gone, gone aint coming back gone. Difficult to compete w/ $6/day and no OSHA or EPA laws.

While your situation is good more than likely it is the exception not the rule.

Catawba County umemployment is at 13.1% as of January 2009

While that 13.1% is bad it only reflects those that are actively looking for employment and does not take into account those that have quit looking, which most estimate at an additional 3% of the workforce on the low side.

I am saying as a matter of fact most skilled labor positions are gone with NO ability to bring them back at this point because not only are the capital structures not available or outdated but the machinery has been sold or scrapped.

Very little capital outlay to set up upholstery manufacturing but i do agree with the exception vs rule theory. But the speed of outsourcing to China was mirrored by me bring it back to take advantage of shipping times, speed to market and owning the quality control.
