Just wanted to say hello to everyone on the site. Been reading up a bit, but I just registered today. Heres a picture of my jeep. I picked it up for practically nothing. I've always been interested in jeeps, but never been able to afford one. Well, I finally got one and I'm absolutely lovin it so far. Future plans will be a lift and some nice offroad lights, a winch, and maybe some nice bumpers. As of right now, it's stock with 31" bfg all terrains. Tell me what you think.

Welcome! Lets get those donuts off that thing and put some beef on it!

Yeah, it's a 4 cylinder. The 31's thats on it now are bfg all terrains, so they're beefy for small tires...lol. I want to put about 3 inches of lift so I can put 33's on it though. For now, it does great off road. Can't wait for nicer weather so I can take the top off. This is my first wrangler. I've had 2 cherokees, so I'm not completely new to 4 wheel drive vehicles, but the wrangler is sooooo much more fun than the cherokees I've had. Thanks guys for all the welcomes. I'll post up some offroad pics as soon as I take it out on my trail in the daytime...lol.

They already have a "New Members" thread at the top of the General Chit Chat section.

Oh!?
Really?

Seriously?

Damn, I just assumed it was a brand new thought based on all the "hi Ii'm the new guy posts"

And here I thought I was an inventive genius...;)

I looked up at the top when I first went to post this thread, all I really saw was threads for pics and stuff, not really a section dedicated for "welcome, I'm new"......kinda thing, thats why I posted it in here. I'll be the first one in the new section though...lol. Thanks guys for the warm welcome. Where do all you guys go wheelin at? I've got a little trail in the woods behind my apartment, but nothing that great...lol. Heres a picture of my old toyota on the trail I found back there.........It was a nice truck, but I like the jeep better......

this is a list yager but together of all the legal places to go

Ok, gang lets compile a list of LEGAL wheeling place. I will update this top post and when the list is complete it will get turned into a sticky and possibly included with the new member sign up.. (good idea btw)
Also, thanks to the long time members that continually help keep the newbies on track with this frequent topic.
What I would like to see is factual information about the various locations. Links to official sites, links to maps, links to Camping/accommodations. GPS cords. Clear/concise directions you have personally used.
Again this will get compiled into a big list as the info is provided...
The list of legal wheeling locations:
North Carolina
  • Brown Mountain, NC
    http://www.4x4trails.net/db_view_trail.php?trailNum=443
  • Carolina Beach,
  • Devils Playground (DPG), - Invite only, frequent public/open invites w/ info posted regularly
  • Fort Fisher, Licensed four-wheel drive vehicles may travel on the beach in designated areas for access to excellent surf fishing. Gate will close at 7:00 pm on the following dates: May 29-31, June 27-29, July 27-29 and August 25-27. (These are periods around a full moon, which is prime for sea turtle nesting.) Contact the park office for assistance in gaining access to the beach.
Climate - Winter daytime temperatures range from 40 to 44 degrees Fahrenheit (4 to 7 Celsius). Summer daytime temperatures range from 78 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit (26 to 27 Celsius). The state has a fairly wet climate with an average precipitation for this area averaging 48-52 inches (122-132 centimeters).
Location - Fort Fisher State Recreation Area is located in New Hanover County, five miles south of Carolina Beach off US 421. It may also be reached from Brunswick County via the Southport-Fort Fisher ferry, which crosses the Cape Fear River.

  • The Rock Garden, Lincolnton, NC

  • Tellico, Tellico Nation Forest Outside of Murphy NC
Directions - Go west on I-40. Just the other side of Canton, NC you will see Exit 27 for 19/23. Be alert! It is a wide two lane exit, but not an exit ramp, while an unmistakable exit it is easy to miss if not paying attention or heavy traffic. There are no exits for some time and it will cost you a one hour round trip if you miss this turn off. You stay on this the whole way to Murphy. When you get to the end of the 4 lane, the right lane turns right towards Robinsville. Stay in left lane. This will take you thru the Nantahala Nation Forest. You must go like 20 mph thru the areas that the stores, shops, and rafting places are. It's a long winding road with varying speed limits. Lot's of ups and downs. Once thru there you are close to Murphy. When you get into Murphy, you will see a Wal-mart on the left. Has a gas house and usually the cheapest place to re-fuel. When you leave Wal-Mart, you will go to the second stoplight(not counting the one at Wal-mart. Or the third counting the one at Wal-Mart. Turn right. This will take you thru town. Stay straight all the way thru town until you come to a flashing yellow light. Turn right there onto Hanging Dog Road. Stay Straight on Hanging Dog road till you see Davis Creek rd on the right. That's the way into the trail system. It actually turns into trail 1.
If you go past Davis Creek road you will go up a long winding road up, and when you start down again you will find Crawford's on the right. Look for the White Jeep on a pole (it's the sign for the place)
