OK would I be crazy to buy a x with 430k? What all should I look at for? Or would I be better served with a less than 200k mile v10?

While we are here we can discuss other tow SUVs. I have a 09 kz spree 318bhs dry is 5800ish with 800ish tongue weight. Max weight is 6900. Obviously I'd be using weight distribution hitch. Expedition? Tahoe? Suburban? Expedition? Keep in mind I'm looking between 4-4500 price range.

I looked for a while at excursions. I ended up with a v10 with under 140k. I just couldn't justify more than double the price and 100k more miles for the 7.3.

I Drive a 7.3 everyday it just rolled 270k and just keeps right on going , I had a 2000 f-350 crew cab 2wd v10 auto w/4:30 ratio w/55k mi ,it was a turd ...wouldn't pull a greasy string out a cats ass !!!
I wouldn't waste my time on a v-10 truck and it got 9mpg empty ..they ain't worth a :poop:
Id take a 7.3 wìth 300k on it over a new v10 any day !

I DD a 7.3 with that currently has 407,000 miles. The key is in the maintenance. Mine was maintained meticulously and runs flawlessly without so much as an oil leak. If you can get the records and it has been properly maintained, I would choose it over a v10 with half the miles in a second. On the other hand if it hasn't been maintained it can be a giant money pit. Diesels are more expensive to maintain. You don't want one that's been some kid's hot rod. Ask for maintenance records, do an oil analysis, and check the turbo for dusting. If those check out, I'd go with it before even considering a v10

Dont think he has any records except a trans rebuild.
What's turbo dusting and how do I check for it?
Cost of repair for negotiation of it has it?
Never done an oil analysis either. Care to elaborate on that?
Thanks

I just sold a v10 f250 I got 12 unloaded and 9 pulling 9500lbs. Was no race winner but did the job. This camper is lighter and I figured a v10 would easily do the job.

Rebuild on a 7.3 will be around $2500 maybe less if its not to worn out. This does not include injectors or turbo. You WILL need injectors one day!! My .02 drive it till it will not drive any more!!! Change the oil every 7 to 10 thousand, keep your eyes open for a spare engine build it slow and replace it

I have nothing to add about the 7.3, but I towed a 8000# camper for a couple years with my 03 Expedition and it was decent. Of course, it was slow on the hills. Got about 10 towing and still gets 15 dding. Just throwing this out there since you asked. I know it would not hold a candle to the v10 or the 7.3.

I have read the 03 and up does better. Thanks for the comment.
Excursion fell through. Guy has a loan on it and didn't tell me till I was about to walk out the door
