who likes hockey? hurricanes are playing tonight (glad to see hockey is back) and I was wondering, how do you like the rule changes? I know of very few, seems to make the game go by faster and less stopping/

Ooooh, I'll jump on this one! I'm thrilled hockey is finally back. No more two line passes (let the cherry picking begin)! Now if they would just let the players hit the goalies when they come out of the crease I'd be in heaven. Nine years in NC and I'm still a Penguins fan though. Old habits never die. Sorry.

Hockey isn't that big in the south. I suppose the biggest reason is that we don't have the weather to freeze ponds lakes and so on so that as kids we have ice skates and hockey sticks. Very few skating rinks around. Now, there are many sand lots, and pastures, and hay feilds, so football and baseball was the norm. Both city and country areas have feilds for organized play. Just not the oportunity for the ice sports open to our youth.

It doesn't have to be big for the youth here for it to be big here anyway.... just think - hockey was born in Canada and there are what, like 2 Canadian teams left? Who would have ever thought that there would be a Pheonix team in the NHL???? It's in the middle of the DESERT!!!!! There are more teams in "warm" climates than there are in "cold" climates now.
