Holley Projection

I have known several people who had the holly projection. No one liked it, and none of them run it very long. With the 400 I think you would do great with a chevy throttle body and and get a harness and have it re-worked for simplicity. I think you would be much happier.

That's what my first plan was (the chevy TBI)and someone told me about the holley. Do they make an adapter to put TBI to a square bore intake? I would like to use my Airgap intake and also I am running 062 vortec heads that have already been reworked. Not that big of a deal though, I can change the intake if I have too I will just have too use something with vortec heads. I might hit some yards next week and see what I can dig up.

I agree. A friend of mine bought a Holley Projection for his 360 and he still does not have it tuned. He is frustrated to say the least. I purchased a Howell TBI kit for my 360 and it was plug and play! No issues what so ever.

400 TBI

A friend of mine put factory GM TBI on a SBC 400. He used the factory TBI intake, harness, sensors (well some were new) etc.

We actually found some parts car taxicab's in Raleigh that were ex Caprice cop cars...They had tbi 350's, but the injectors flow more and the computers tuned to move out.

Worked pretty good just like that, probably could be fine tuned better by someone burning new chips or having lots of time to mess with it.

Dont know about the intake adapters. From what I've been told the TBI likes a nearly factory/RV towing cam, ie don't go crazy on cam unless you know how to tune everything else.

Maybe some others here know more on that stuff.

Hope that helps

I have thought about the Edelbrock injection system, for my upcoming build. But i'm a little scared of having problems out on the trail, I'm still in the keep it simple theory. One other thing to keep in mind is that Vortec heads (64cc chambers) on a 400 will put you close to 12.0-1 compression which is not pump gas friendly. Also heat may be an issue particularly if steam holes are not drilled in the head to match the block. Yes they flow better, but be careful of detenation. Just my $.02

IIRC, the problem with a big cam on a TBI engine is it's a manifold pressure-based system, and the erratic and low vacuum from a big cam gives the ECU fits. Projections is the same way.

Not trying to step on any toes, but from the people I've spoken with, the people who always complain about the NEWER ("D" systems) Holley systems are ones who don't have a strong understanding of how a EFI system works, and how to tune it.. Their mindset is still thinking like it's a carb.

That said, there's alot to be said for a factory-based TBI, especially if you have the ability to tune it for a custom app.

Oh, and yes, there's intake adapters for just about anything.. I recall seeing a 2-barrel TBI to square bore adapter before... I think it was summit or Jegs.

I have the 675cfm on my 360 and is works good. I bought it used from a buddy that went to pane. It is very difficult to get tuned properly. The tuning maunal is about 20 pages long. The Howell set up is much easier from what I've heard...

The summit adapter is $90.
There is a better option out there for $52.
I will have to look up the manufacturer tonight for you.

Also *shameless plug* I have a complete EFI set up. Throttle body, ECM, Intake (if wanted), and Dizzy/coil, and harness

Id let go cheap. I just picked up a mpfi engine the other night, and plans have changed...

[edit] cfm-tech is the company for the adapter if anyone else cares. Theirs is thicker and seals better than the edelbrock piece. At least according to everyone I talked to.

Thanks for all the info. I am gonna try the TBI that skyHiK5 is selling in my thread. LOL No shameless plugging, it's just what I was looking for. Thanks Ron:driver:

I'll pick it up this weekend.

Thanks Again for all the info. Jay

Just got the TBI kit (THANKS Ron). I am gonna try Jim's Performance.com to program and clean up the harness.
