what the hell? glad to see that these rich bastards are so willing to sing for our money., yet haven't heard any of them actually donate any. how are we supposed to donate/raise money when everyone's stretched already?

I'm sorry, but last I checked there aren't dead bodies in the median of Glenwood Avenue. I don't think I'll compare my financial situation (which I admit is stretched) with the chaos of New Orleans right now.

People give what they can because they feel compelled to help one another... for whatever personal reasons or beliefs. I don't mind NOT hearing about each and every celebrity who is donating and what/how much. They're not accountable to me.

But if it'll make you feel better...

One of the events to benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief efforts is an auction (of things donated by rich people, most likely bid on by just-as-rich people). It is organized, in part, by Morgan Freeman, who lives in Mississippi.

"The Red Cross said Wednesday it has raised $21 million, with nearly $15 million coming from individual donations through the Red Cross' Web site."

So a bunch of somebodies feel it is important to help. If you can't give money, there are other ways... if you can't, then don't. If you don't want to hear about it then don't turn on the television.
