Looks like some pretty impressive scenery!

Where exactly did you wheel? I'm heading out to Durango for two weeks the end of September. Planning to ride some around Montrose, Telluride and Silverton.

There's not a whole lot around Montrose, There is a rock garden somewhere around there, but never been there. Drive down Hwy 550 to Ouray and then you can wheel from there to Telluride or Silverton or Lake City. The scenery is second to none. Bring a camera and extra memory. Last time I was there I did Imogene from Ouray to Lake City, Animas Forks to Silverton and Red mountain (Paved but will blow your mind how they built the road in the early 1880's) It was something like 98 miles and took 8 hours. Take a picnic lunch too.

man the san juans/all of CO is one of the coolest places in the know world

Looks like fun.

Die Trying, Calamity, and Cactus Ridge are all near Montrose.

A good loop you can do (low range req'd, 4wd less so) is to head north from Silverton to Animas Forks, then to Ouray. From Ouray you can take 550 south back to Silverton and Durango. Or from Animas, you can swing east to Lake City, back west through Capitol City and Henson over Engineer and into Ouray.

About halfway between Ouray and Silverton off 550 is a trail that drops over Imogene pass into T'ride. You can then double back over Ophir Pass to the south.
